Polycarbonate Sheet

Polycarbonate Characteristics

High mechanical strength Good creep resistance Very high impact strength, even at low temperatures Stiffness retention over a wide range of temperatures Very good dimensional stability (very low water absorption and low coefficient of linear thermal expansion) Physiologically inert (suitable for food contact) Higher temperature resistance than acrylic and offers greater impact strength

ApplicationsComponents for precision engineering, insulating parts for electrical engineering, components for medical and pharmaceutical devices. Polycarbonate proves a useful sheet material for safety glazing applications, providing strength and shatter resistance over glass.

Polycarbonate sheet likes:

Lukewarm water, when cleaning with a little household detergent added and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge, just wipe, don't rub.

Applications requiring high impact strength, good optical clarity and flexibility in design.

Polycarbonate sheet hates:

Being cleaned dry, which can scratch it, fluffy or rough cloths. Polycarbonate has a fairly soft surface in comparison to glass and even acrylic.

Polycarbonate is not partial to solvents or oil-based products such as putty. It is best to use a low modulus, neutral cure silicone sealant for glazing polycarbonate.

Polycarbonate is notch sensitive.

Being heat formed without pre-drying.

About Polycarbonate sheet:

The discovery of Polycarbonate dates back to 1898, however, it was not until 1953 that Bayer laboratories produced linear thermoplastic Polycarbonate of high molecular weight. In 1957 Bayer and General Electric announced independent development of PC and in the summer of 1960 both companies began commercial production.

Polycarbonate sheet is manufactured by the process of extrusion. This process is geared towards volume production at lower cost so generally only limited colour variants are available.

Polycarbonate sheet is a versatile plastic medium, which lends itself to a wide range of applications in safety and security glazing, machine guarding, barrel vault roofing, balcony cladding, impact resistant covers, sound barrier walls and much more. Polycarbonate sheet has excellent optical clarity, is easily of formed and fabricated and is extremely strong and durable. In addition polycarbonate sheet is very flexible which makes it an excellent choice for barrel vault roofing, covered walkways etc, as it can be installed cold bent on site.

The formats available are: Clear Polycarbonate sheet , Opal Polycarbonate sheet , Bronze Tint Polycarbonate sheet , Grey Tint Polycarbonate sheet , Anti-reflective Polycarbonate sheet , Mirror Polycarbonate sheet , Obscure/Patterned Polycarbonate sheet.
